Erica Elizabeth Yunghans, 45, of Fredonia, died suddenly on Oct. 1, 2022, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. She was born May 24, 1977, near Poughkeepsie N.Y.
She was the beloved wife of the recently deceased Steven Yunghans and the devoted mother of Patrick and Emma. She was the daughter-in-law of Penelope and Wayne Yunghans. She was the unofficially adopted daughter of Larry and Judy Crook.
Erica was raised by her grandmother and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Fredonia. Erica was also a devoted singer and had attended NYSMA programs. Erica was a past assistant layout editor at The Observer, Dunkirk. In spite of her cerebral palsy, Erica was resourceful, diligent, and a productive worker. She was an activist for the rights of people with disabilities. Erica also had been a part of many different community organizations some with Steven.
She was known for her humble and kind attitude toward herself and others. She was very thankful for the encouragement and support from numerous people in the community. Erica will always be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church W, 6th and Eagle St. Dunkirk, NY., on Oct. 12, 2022, Wednesday at 6 p.m., that evening.
