David R. Dow

David R. Dow, 80, of Dunkirk, died Saturday morning (July 16, 2022) at home following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Dunkirk, the son of the late Charles and Hazel (Michielsen) Dow.

A lifelong resident of Western NY, David served in the U.S. Air Force as an air police officer, 1958-63. He had been employed by Nestle Purina in Dunkirk, retiring in 2004.

David had been a member of American Legion Post 62, Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the original Dunkirk Joint Veterans Honor Guard. A lifelong fan of the “King” Elvis Presley. Elvis has left the building for the last time.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Dascenzo) Dow, whom he married on Nov. 14, 1964; two sons: Keith (Jennifer) Dow of Hamburg, and Michael Dow of Cheektowaga; and his daughter, Kathleen (Colin Sr.) Dow Kulpa of Dunkirk.

Also survived by nine grandchildren: Robert (Megan Borgstrom) Kulig, Colin Jr. (Heather Mundt) Kulpa, Sean (Mandie Engel) Mc Niff, Amy (Andrew) Dow Wong, Matthew Dow, David Gee, Zachary Dow, Madeline Kroll, and Lydia Dow; one great-granddaughter, Kali Lynn Kulpa; and step-sis-ter, Nancy Fry.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Peggy Mondo; step-father, George Halpainy; and step-brother, Larry Halpainy.

Private funeral services will be held Aug. 20, 2022, where David will have a Scottish Bag piper and military honors.

A celebration of life will be held at 3-5 p.m., Aug. 20, 2022 at Dom Polski Club Room.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care or Roswell Park Cancer Institute, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
