Dora L. (Bonacker) Barbknecht

Dora L. (Bonacker) Barbknecht passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on March 2, 1933, in Cranz, East Prussia, the daughter of the late Fritz and Anna (Brockert) Bonacker. She met and married Heinrich G. (Henry) Barbknecht and immigrated to the United States in 1956.

Dora worked for several years at the former Bells Supermarket in Dunkirk and formed lasting friendships there. She always had a smile and kindness to share with those she encountered. She had a passion for gardening and plants and enjoyed playing pinochle with friends.

Survivors include three daughters: Elisabeth (David) Wisniewski, Mary Barbknecht and Ruth (Bobby) Carroll; four grand children: Lori (Amauri Varona) Wisniewski, Lynn Wisniewski, John Montalban and Jennifer (Timothy) Granger; four great-grandchildren: Wayne McEnany III, Scotty and Danny Granger and Wyatt Montalban; and four very special caregivers: Nancy, Sue, Jenn and Mary T.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Heinrich G. “Henry” Barbknecht; brother, Dieter Bonacker; and grandson, David Junior Montalban.

A celebration of life will be announced at a future date. Memorial may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
