Lucy Winder, 87, of Brocton, formerly of Dunkirk, passed away at home on Nov. 5, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1934, in Dunkirk, the daughter of Carlo and Elizabeth (Leggiadro) Galardo.
She was an employee of Brooks Memorial Hospital for over 30 years and was remembered fondly by many, especially for her sense of humor.
She is survived by her sons: Donald Winder, William (Sharon) Winder, Richard (Tammy) Winder, and Robert “Rick” (Shelia) Mazurek, all of Dunkirk; 11 grandchildren: David (Jeanne) Jakubiec, Pamela Rougeau, Michael (Heather) Winder, Derek (Alyssa) Winder, James (Jessica) Winder, Jared (Amanda) Winder, Jessica Winder, Michelle (Kevin) Salisbury, Richard (Amy) Winder, Casey (Jared Ehmke) Hennessey and Amanda Mazurek. 26 great-grandkids; several great-great-grand kids; sister; Angeline Corbett of Dunkirk; sister-in-law, Linda Galardo; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death in 1991 by her husband, Robert J Winder, whom she married in 1954; her daughter, Darla Jakubiec; daughter-in-law, Robin Winder’ granddaughter Carissa Winder; great-grandson, Colt Winder; brothers: Nicholas, Anthony, Louis, Peter and Virginio Galardo; sisters, Catherine Maulucci, Ida Geraci, Rose Barlette, Nancy Williams, Jenny Wolk, Josephine Seay, Margie Jagoda, Mary Galardo, Ida Galardo and Virginia Mae Galardo.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held immediately after the calling hours at 1 p.m. Her grandson, Pastor Michael R. Winder of Victory Tabernacle, Cattaraugus will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sheridan, N.Y.
Lucy’s family would like to thank her care givers who lovingly helped her stay in her home these last few months.
