Mary Ellen “Molly” Ganey, 74, of Dunkirk, died Friday (Oct. 29, 2021) at home.
She was born July 12, 1947, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Thomas D. Sr. and Elizabeth (Diederich) Ganey.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Molly was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, class of 1966 and Jamestown Business School in 1968.
She was employed by the City of Dunkirk for more than 50 years. While working in the assessor’s office, Molly took great pride in serving the residents of Dunkirk. She will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to go the extra mile to help all who entered her office.
Molly was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and had also been a member of several local organizations. Her favorite time was spent with friends and family, especially her nieces, nephews, and their families. She also had a soft spot in her heart for animals.
Survivors include one brother, Thomas Ganey Jr. of Angola; one sister, Nancy (John) Dach of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Lonadier; niece, Lisa Gostomski; and sister-in-law, Lisbeth Ganey.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
