Joseph J. Kolasa of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, after a brief illness at the age of 78.
Joe was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to the late Joseph G. and Stella (Jakubowski) Kolasa.
A graduate of Industrial High, Joe used his education as an electrician to establish his own business before his employment at SUNY Fredonia. He dedicated 33 years of service, retiring as supervising electrician.
Joe loved reminiscing about his “glory days” playing baseball and keeping the beat as a drummer in several polka/wedding bands such as The Tubby Wallace Orchestra and Richie & The Good Times.
Joe always took pride in his vehicles and took meticulous care of each. His love of driving didn’t stop with cars, he’d happily mow his lawn and snow blow his driveway, often before it was even necessary.
Joe was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter, and NAS-CAR enthusiast. Like his own father, he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and relaxing with his pets.
To his daughters Kimberly (David) Lotter and JoLeen (Rich Norton) Kolasa, Dad was a source of strength and an example of exceptional work ethic, never leaving a job incomplete.
He is also survived by his sisters: Sandra (Leo) Bain of Fredonia, and Darleen (the late Carl) Calarco of Nashville, Tenn., whom he took great pleasure annoying as the only boy and eldest sibling.
He is lovingly remembered as “the best bad influence” by several nieces and nephews. He cherished his relationship as Grandpa Joe to Nick (Melissa) Sheffield and will be missed by his furry companions: Niles and Zippy.
Services are private, but Joe would appreciate it if you would honor him and his Polish heritage with a drink.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue, 7540 North Gale St., Westfield, NY 14787, or Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut St., Dunkirk
