Helen L. Barone, 95, of Fredonia, died Thursday morning (July 29, 2021) at Brooks Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 23, 1926,, in Cherry Creek, the daughter of the late Alfred and Fanny (Galbraith) Macey.

A lifelong resident of the area, Helen was a graduate of Cassadaga High School. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Dunkirk Senior Center, United Seniors, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Helen enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters: Sandra Barone, with whom she resided and Sheryl (Lou) Carreras, both of Fredonia.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony C. Barone; one sister, Pauline Hallberg; and four brothers: Harold Macey, Morris Macey, Ellis Macey and Howard Macey.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3,, from 4-6 p.m., at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity Church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dunkirk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.

    Our deepest sympathy to Helen’s daughters. Helen was always a pleasure to see and I enjoyed getting to know her.
