Charles A. Cowen, 79, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday morning (Dec. 29, 2020) at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk.
He was born April 26, 1941, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur and Marie (Gaedker) Cowen.
An area resident for most of his life, Charles was an eighth grade science teacher at Dunkirk Middle School for 29 years.
He was a member of the Dunkirk Teachers Association, Dunkirk Elks Lodge No. 922, Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge No. 89, and the Fredonia Beaver Club.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, and bowling.
Survivors include his brother-in-law, Joseph (Sandra) LaTona of Fredonia; four nieces: Lisa, Lauren, Lydia and Jolene; and one nephew, Joseph V.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary L. (LaTona) Cowen, who died Dec. 17, 2020.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in the Columbarium of Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
