John H. FitzGerald, 69, of Fredonia died unexpectedly Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2020) at home.
He was born March 8, 1951 in Dunkirk, the son of Ruth (Langenstein) FitzGerald of Dunkirk and the late John G. FitzGerald.
A lifelong resident of the area, John graduated from Dunkirk High School with the class of 1969 and was a U.S. Army veteran. He had been employed at Cliffstar Corporation in Dunkirk.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Amy J. (Butters) FitzGerald; one son, John FitzGerald; one stepdaughter, Janet (William) Ginnick; three stepsons, Richard (Anita) Ilecki, David (Mary) Ilecki, and Joey (Danielle) Ilecki; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Denis Riley; and two nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Riley.
Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the governor of New York, family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family. John was a smart, talented, honest man with a good sense of humor. He had me laughing every time I was in his company. He is already sadly missed. I am shocked and deeply saddened of his passing.
I am very sad to hear that John has died. We went to St. Mary’s and Dunkirk High School together. He was a good man. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his family.
